Transitioning to Fall: Denim & Mustard Tones

Nodding To Fall With Denim & Color

While the temps may be steamy here in New York, my mind is racing with thoughts of chunky sweaters & chelsea boots for Fall. Until then, it’s time to start nodding to Fall with great denim & autumn-trend tones even while it’s still warm out there. For denim, it’s all about a vintage, 90’s style wash like these skinnies from Abercrombie. Not only is the wash perfectly aged, but the fit is insane and contain just the right amount of stretch. For shirting, opt for classic oxford-cloth shirts in Fall-ready colors, one of the biggest trends of the season being mustard. This one from Abercrombie is perfectly washed with a killer fit. Throw a varsity-inspired sweater around your waist or shoulders for a little hint at layering (you can always throw in your bag when the temps rise throughout the day).

New Obsession: The Bonobos Italian Performance Suit

The Navy Suit I’ve Been Waiting For

Navy Suit Mens Bonobos

Bonobos Suit Preston Konrad

Preston Konrad Suit Bonobos

I honestly think a well-dressed man can’t have enough classic navy suiting. One of the most versatile suiting options to have in your wardrobe, a chic, slim navy suit will give you the mileage you need in the office while providing you with endless opportunities to break it apart and wear with denim, joggers, etc on the weekend. I thought I had all of my bases covered when it came to navy suiting (hint, there may be more than 5 navy suits in my closet!) until this bad boy fell in to my lap last week. I was given the chance to test drive the new Italian Performance suiting from my friends at Bonobos and all I can say is, WOW. Not only is this bad boy packed with just the right amount of stretch, but the cut is perfectly slim, the fabric is breathable yet luxurious, the color is spot-on, and to top things off – it is under $800! For the same price as a run-of-the-mill mall brand, Bonobos is crushing the game by introducing this luxury suit to the market as such a value. I always say the devil is in the details and these guys hit the nail on the head with wrinkle resistant & water repellent fabric and a shirt-gripping waistband inside of the pants. This baby will have you being the envy of the boardroom and your wallets new best friend.

The New Apartment: Decor Inspo + Helpful Moving Tips

2018 Interior Design Inspiration + Helpful NYC Moving Tips

New Yorkers are always on the move. Whether it’s to a big brunch, my next meeting, or in this case a new apartment – one thing New Yorkers like myself can’t stop doing is MOVING! I know a lot of you have fallen in love with our current apartment in Hell’s Kitchen (hello backyard space and outdoor dining!) but alas, we’ve been in this spot temporarily and it’s time to move! That being said, we are SO excited to be moving to a fabulous new building in Midtown with city & river views, plenty of office space and some killer finishes. I’m going to be sharing the ultimate reveal of the new apartment soon after moving in, but in the meantime I wanted to give you guys a sneak peak of some of the inspiration imagery I’ve been saving, as well as some helpful NYC moving tips if you find yourself in the same boat as us.

My Fav Inspo Images Right Now:

After spending a lot of time in Los Angeles, I’ve become hooked on the laid back elegance of LA living. As we move here in New York, I’m hoping to reflect a more casual & neutral interior scheme with our new home. I love this living room setup from interior designer Brady Tolbert of Emily Henderson Designs – the classic Moroccan Rug is the perfect amount of texture to balance out the clean art and modern lighting.

Reading / Insta nook goals! Tearing another page out of Brady Tolbert’s inspo book, I love the way he put together this elegant yet masculine little reading nook. As you know, most of us New Yorkers are spatially challenged as far as ‘nooks’ are concerned, but this is a great compact way to add some extra coziness and functionality to any living space.

One thing that is always a challenge for fashion-fueled New Yorkers is CLOSET SPACE! While our new home has great closet space, sadly…I don’t think it will be enough for the both of us! I’ve been doing a lot of research into wardrobe systems / additional storage and I’m 99% positive I will be going with the IKEA PAX system! (If anyone has any great PAX hacks, please DM me some pics…I would love to see!) The Pinterest rabbit hole is JAM-PACKED with unbelievable PAX Hacks, from molding to painting, to elevated hardware, it looks as though the possibilities are endless. Stay tuned on this front!

Helpful Moving Tips:

With all of the interior design fluff out of the way, it’s time to talk about the big stuff…actually moving! In a city like New York (or anywhere for that matter), moving can be super stressful (and let’s be honest, no friends really want to help you move for a beer and a box of pizza…it’s 2018 lol) Not only are you moving your physical belongings, but you’re uprooting your entire life…memories, keepsakes, hand-me-downs, the works. To make things a bit smoother, I’ve put together some of my top tips to moving (and trust me, I’ve done the research!)

Do the research & commit to a moving company: To make things easier, we started off by doing tons of research, pricing & reading into the moving service area. We decided that we wanted to commit ourselves to a trusted, highly-rated, friendly moving service that we could use year after year. Enter my fam at Roadway Moving. No joke everyone – Roadway has made all of our moving worries melt away from the minute we had our first phone call with them back in 2016 and we legit can’t wait to work with them again. When I first saw that Roadway’s company logo involved an actual heart, I thought it was too good to be true. Boy was I wrong – these guys are the real deal. Not only did Roadway handle all of our conversations with the utmost class & respect, but they were the most communicative and responsible movers I have ever worked with (I’m talking follow-up emails, phone calls, on-the-dot scheduling, etc)

Treat yourself to the packing service: Until Roadway, I had never selected the packing option when it came to moving. Call me a control freak (or a hoarder lol), but I always thought I enjoyed the process of packing all of my things…until I didn’t have to do it! Not only does this make your move SO much faster and less stressful, but when you arrive to your new home everything will be organized by room and safely packed, making transitioning into your new house that much easier. (btw – the picture above was legit how happy we were with our last move with Roadway, ha!)

Do A Pre-Move Edit: When you have quality movers like Roadway, you can rest assured that all of your delicate decor items will arrive in one piece. Although it sounds a bit like cleaning before a cleaning service comes to your home, I like to do one or two passes through the house and make an ‘edit’ of fragile pieces, items to donate, and things that require extra packing. Once I’ve made a pass through the house, I like to organize all of the items in their own section of the room (ie: all vintage books together, all objects together, etc).

Well there you have it, some of my top tips for moving your house AND some sneak peaks of my latest interior design inspiration! I will be sure to keep you all posted as the decor shopping progresses, and in the meantime be sure to checkout Roadway Moving if you are looking to upgrade your moving service and have some peace of mind when settling into your new home.

Floral Shirt Trend: Steals & Splurges

 Floral Shirts:

Summer’s Biggest Trend – Steal Vs Splurge

With Memorial Day having come and gone, Summer 18 is in full swing. In general, I hate spending too much money on anything Summery (too much sweat, too trendy, too sticky, you get the idea). Thankfully, some of the biggest trends of the Summer are available at killer prices from most of the high street brands.

One of the biggest trends for Summer is the floral short sleeved shirt. Meant to be worn loose, these bad boys are perfect for staying cool while looking on trend. Try pairing with your favorite chino shorts for a preppier vibe, or wide leg trousers or jeans for something a bit more trend-right. (To be super 2018, try tucking your shirt in with a killer belt).

To make Summer styling a bit more simple for you guys, I’ve rounded up some of the best floral shirts at steal prices and a few that are bit more splurge-worthy. Check out my picks after the jump! x -Preston

The Ugly Sneaker Trend

Wearing Ugly / Dad / 90’s / Chunky Sneakers Is A Thing

If you follow me on Instagram, it will be no surprise to you that I am not a fan of the ugly sneaker trend that is currently taking over social media and the fashion industry as a whole. Perhaps it’s because I’ve lived through this style moment during it’s incarnation in the 90’s (high school flashbacks anyone?) or maybe it’s because of the wild prices, but either way I can not justify playing with this whole ugly moment. As I’ve written to many of you, my whole theory on personal style is that it is just that, very personal. I hate seeing friends cave to trends and waste money in the process. Of course I support buying things that make you happy, but I’d much rather you guys invest in classics like a gorgeous chelsea boot, Gucci loafers (backless or classic), a killer Prada brogue, or handsome wingtips that you’ll have for a decade. That being said, I’ve been getting tons of messages on Instagram saying that you’d like to give this wacky-ass trend a shot and I figured if you are going to pull the trigger, I’d save your bank account a few bucks and save you a bit of embarrassment (cue looking back at your feed in 2020 wondering what the hell was I thinking?!) I’ve scoured the web and landed on 15 pairs of chunky sneakers that are under $200 and won’t have you looking like an extra in a bad Saved By The Bell episode. As always, feel free to drop me a comment or a DM on Instagram…happy shopping! x -Preston

Now Trending: Mens Jewelry – The Best Under $50

Mens Jewelry – Yes, It’s Happening (And You Don’t Need To Blow The Bank)

If I had a dollar for each message I have received on Instagram about where to find gold necklaces like the ones I wear everyday, I would be a pretty happy guy. You guys know I love to spill the secrets about where I shop for my favorite accessories, but unfortunately I find myself sending the same message 10 times a day..’sorry they’re vintage!’. I believe the best and most meaningful jewelry is the stuff you collect along your travels. My collection comes from all over the place…gifts from friends, flea market finds, high street shops, vintage dealers, you get the drill. To make things a bit easier for you guys, I’ve scoured the web for some nearly identical pieces to the ones I wear and found the best pieces for UNDER $50 bucks. With Spring & Summer right around the corner, it’s time to loosen the collars and show off your man-bling…without breaking the bank. Before you jump into the man bling game, a few things to remember: 1) try not to mix too many metals 2) keep the chains THIN and the charms SMALL (anything too big is entering Sopranos territory) and 3) play with layering and lengths. Happy shopping, guys. x- Preston

The Berkshires: A Weekend Stay At 33 Main

33 Main: A Picture Perfect Escape From Manhattan

Having never been to The Berkshires, the thought of a cozy weekend in Lenox, Massachusetts’ newest (and most perfectly designed) Inn 33Main was more than enough for Matt & I to hop in the car drive North. With navigation fired up, Venti coffees in the console, and our puppy Brody in our laps, we were pleasantly shocked to arrive in Lenox in under three hours from departing the concrete jungle (I never knew The Berkshires were so close to NYC!) A gentle snowfall welcomed us to Lenox, a picturesque New England town… frozen in time yet perfectly modernized. Sat squarely in the center of town (literally across the street from every boutique and restaurant your heart desires) was our home away from home, 33Main.

Upon checking in, we instantly fell in love. Don’t expect to roll your luggage up to a reception desk…instead you’ll be greeted by one of the friendly staff members who will give you the grand tour of the house, and treat you to some of the craziest warm chocolate chip cookies you’ll ever eat. What was formerly a grand private home in the 1800s has been painstakingly converted into a luxury inn…imagine the intimacy and charm of a bed & breakfast with all of the modern luxuries of a 5 star hotel.

**Design note: I’m a sucker for a good sisal rug / wallpaper combo and absolutely love how Annie Selke chose this chocolate sisal runner to climb the grand staircase as a compliment the Ralph Lauren wallpaper in the foyer. **

After our tour of the inn, we were whisked up the sisal lined staircase to our corner room. Flooded with light (all of the rooms are perfectly lit for instagram btw) where we were immediately struck by the interior design. Given that the entire place was appointed with the effortlessly luxe designs of Annie Selke, we were not surprised in the least. (Think airy grasscloth wallpaper, amazing textured linens, silky pillows, and chunky throw blankets, and the most insanely plush robe you can imagine…no joke on the robe situation).

(Scrambles to take notes in iphone on how to painstakingly recreate this luxe pillow combo back in NYC lol)

After taking a minute to throw down our bags (aka lay down in the plush bedding and watch half of a law & order SVU episode on the yummy flatscreen TV) and surprise Brody with the adorable organic dog treats left in the room, it was time for an outfit change to explore the rest of Main Street.

On the way out, the staff took a minute to go over the must-do restaurants and coffee shops in town and sent us on our way (our favorite restaurant in town was called NUDL, btw). After falling immediately in love with the interior design of 33Main, our first stop of the day was the Annie Selke store across the street to see if there were any must-have pieces for our own home.

If you’re a texture maniac like myself, be prepared to be a bit overloaded upon walking into the Annie Selke shop on Main street…so…much…good…stuff. Filled with everything from window treatments and runner rugs to pillows and hand soaps, this shop is a must see spot in Lenox. Matt & I cruised around the store, recognizing some of the standout pieces used in 33Main and ended up grabbing a killer moroccan style runner rug and the most incredible linen bathrobe (I told you the robe situation was out of control lol).

We took the rest of the day to explore Lenox and hit up some a few cute coffee shops and boutiques before heading back to the inn to get ready for dinner. Immediately after walking through the door we were surprised with a great cheese and wine spread in the lounge, complete with a roaring fireplace, compliments of the inn – can anyone say cozy overload?!

After some more robe time in the room, we headed out to dinner at NUDL (prounounced like noodle…there’s been a much welcomed mini hipsterization to the Berkshires in recent years…festive spelling for the win!) and slept like babies that night.

On Sunday we were graced with a bit more sun and slightly warmer temperatures so it was off to explore the neighboring village of Great Barrington. Just a short drive away, Great Barrington is like the big brother of Lenox. A few more restaurants and shops (slightly more crowded, too) line the Main street and it is the perfect spot for lunch and more shopping…we nibbled at a laid back pub called The Well.

Sadly all good things must come to and end and we were forced to head back to reality later that night. I can’t thank 33Main enough for such a wonderful first trip to the Berkshires – they made our stay not only comfortable and fun, but luxurious and relaxing at the same time…a hard feat to accomplish at almost any property. For those of you looking for the perfect anti-Hamptons getaway from New York City, you must swing up to the Berkshires and checkout 33Main, tell them Preston sent you 🙂 x

The Double Breasted Suit You Can Afford

Double Breasted Suit: How To Style It

The double breasted suit has made its’ way out of the 80’s and into the twenty-teens with slim fits and killer prices. This one from H&M is one of my recent fav purchases. I like to keep things simple and classic by styling it with a tassel loafer and slim sweater (in a festive pattern, of course). Try and keep things monochromatic by layering it with a tonal sweater and black loafers.

The Oxford Shirt: The Key To Keeping It Classic

The Oxford Shirt: Stock Up

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been spending a lot of time in Los Angeles for work (and may secretly escaping the negative temps in NYC). Figuring out my West coast wardrobe was a bit tricky. As much as I want to wear rock and roll tee shirts and fringe jackets, I’ve decided it’s best to stick with what I know best, simple and cool. Warm days and cool nights call for smart layers and breathable fabrics and with LA being the capitol of denim culture, I mostly stick to a trusty pair of jeans and a classic oxford shirt. Paired back to an elevated loafer or slipper, I find this look to not only be perfect for the warm breezes but great for lunch meetings and networking sessions as well. Whether you live out West or are escaping the chill for a warm weather vaca, a simple yet playful look like this won’t let you down.
