Wear This Right Now: The Short Suit
Nick Wooster street style

No — this is not a “How to Dress Like Nick Wooster” style guide, but we will contend that the man can wear the H-E-double hockey sticks out of this trend. As temperatures start to slowly rise (and we mean slowly…glacial even) we have turned our attention to transition our closets to reflect the warmer days ahead. One of the styles we can’t wait to try for spring 2015 is the short suit.

Seen on many of the Spring 2015 runways, this trend has been on the rise for a couple years, but is now in full bloom — and retailers are paying attention. Many of the usual mass-retail contenders — J.Crew, Zara, Asos, etc. — are now offering a wide selection of blazers and coordinating bottoms to feed the appetite of any fashion-forward fella.

Don’t feed like sporting a monochromatic look? Jazz it up! Mix and match a navy jacket with some khaki bottoms or go as bold as Mr. Wooster above and bring a pop of color to some basic Bermudas.

Whether you’re looking to make a statement in the boardroom or beat the heat in style (or both), the short suit will have you looking professional while keeping the dreaded sweat stains at bay.

Ice , Ice Baby: The Platinum Plunge

First of all, NO…I did NOT look to Kim Kardashian or Jared Leto for inspiration for this recent hair plunge. Maybe it was the long winter, the need for sun or just the itch for change, but over the weekend I decided to take a big jump and change things up north of the eyebrows. Yes, I just went platinum blonde and YES, I F*&ing love it.

Having never colored my hair in my entire life (aside from that one time my head had an unfortunate collision with a drug store die box) It was important for me to choose the perfect colorist for this endeavor. Enter Mark Debolt, colorist to the stars at Marie Robinson Salon in New York City.

The color team at Marie Robinson came highly recommended from a dear friend who certainly knows her platinum, the famously iced-platinum Editor-In-Chief of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Joanna Coles (who told me, “what’s the worst that can happen, someone will mistake you for Tilda Swinton??’). Her recommendation per usual, was on point. On Saturday morning I woke up as if it were Christmas morning, ran to starbucks, and headed downtown. The salon was packed…buzzing with perfectly colored New Yorkers; I knew I was in good hands with Mark. A double process and, a toner  and 4 hours later,  voila. Take a peek at my hair adventure right here:

As much as I am obsessed with the color, it’s going to take a bit of getting used to. (and I can’t stop reenacting the SNL Californian sketches) Something to help the ease into the look? A simple wardrobe to of luxe solids and basics.

This Week’s Best Dressed: Bradley Cooper R...

best-dressed-bradley-cooper

Disclaimer: We did not arrange the best dressed list on the rule “age before beauty” — it just happened to fall that way. This week while sifting through the numerous premiers, red carpets and after parties, we not only spotted some newcomers to the style scene, but also some oldies (but goodies). While school is still in session for some, others have learned the lessons and received their degree in dressing.

Just because Dean-Charles Chapman hasn’t been walking the red carpet as long as some of our other dapperly dressed dudes, doesn’t mean that he isn’t bringing some serious competition to the table. The ‘Game of Thrones’ actor shows up to the show’s season 5 premiere in a tailored blue suit with coordinating tie and pocket square. There are a couple nitpicky things we would change, but overall A for effort.

If there’s anything Preston loves more than life, it’s a statement jacket — more specifically a leather moto jacket. Jeremy Irvine brought his good looks and great taste to the BBC Films 25th anniversary reception with an elevated casual ensemble that is both appropriate and comfortable. Had he not added the coat we would have sent this outfit packing, but thankfully, Jeremy knows the way to our hearts.

The guy going home with the gold this week is none other than the Mr. Bradley Cooper. Though he recently called it quits with his bae Suki Waterhouse, we can officially report that the breakup has not affected his sense of style. The ‘American Sniper’ star shows up to the premiere of his newest movie, ‘Serena,’ giving off some casual chic Italian vibes sporting a tailored wool suit, sweater and button down. You don’t have to be European to nail it right on the head.

Do you think Bradley Cooper looks “molto bello” or should we take him back to grammar school and let someone else shine in the spotlight? Let us know in the comments below!

The early days of Spring are always our favorite excuse to whip out the preppy classics like crisp pastel shirts, navy blazers, and sharp shoes. We remixed a classically Spring look by playing with camo prints and stacked brogues for something a bit less expected. Get it.

Early Spring in Manhattan is always INSANELY unpredictable. 60 degrees on Monday and by Friday, we’re being bullied by snow. The key to staying warm and dry while still looking seasonally appropriate for Spring, is all in the color story and layers. We opt for nautical tones of navy and cream in Spring fabrics like cotton and brushed light flannels. (SKIP the wool, snowflake prints, rustic plaids, etc…these should already be packed up in your closet for next Winter.)

This Week’s Best Dressed: Justin Baldoni a...

All three of our dapper dudes this week have one think in common: They’re all Prince Charming — well, to some degree. Whether he’s the knight in shining armor to a young girl with cancer, an old teenage crush or an actual monarch pursuing a young girl who thinks glass is acceptable footwear, these gentlemen prove that they have what it takes to royally own the red carpet. But who will take home the crown? Keep reading to find out.

When someone says denim-on-denim, we can’t help but think back to that frightening AMA’s appearance when Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears hit the red carpet in 2001 (if you don’t know what we’re talking about, click here). However, looking at Ansel Elgort in this custom Prada creation at the ‘Insurgent’ premiere in New York, we have decided that the young star has rectified our fear of seeing denim in front of the step and repeat. Elgort sticks to the blue hues for a look that that is subdued, yet sharp.

If you’ve ever wondered what sort of style Prince Charming would have in real life, you dream can finally come true with our number two celebrity Richard Madden. With all the primping and precision of royalty, the ‘Cinderella’ star selects a blue suit that is well tailored to his body, but adds a bit of boyish rebellion by skipping the tie and leaving his shirt unbuttoned.

Since yesterday was the first day of spring (although it certainly didn’t feel like it), we were excited to see that the layering on the red carpet had moved from heavy winters to warm-weather fabrics via Justin Baldon. Instead of opting for the standard suit and tie, Baldoni selects a neutral pant and vest paired with a gingham button-down — an easy way to keep cool and still look sharp.

Do you think Justin deserved the crown or is it off with his head? Sound off in the comments below!

Wear This Right Now: Mackintosh Jackets

You know how the saying goes: April showers bring May flowers. And as we’re fast approaching the former of the months, we believe that it’s time we trade in our down jackets for something a bit more light-weight.

With wetter weather imminent in the near future, we  look to a style of raincoat that has been the talk of the town recently: the mackintosh. The sleek, simple water-proof design has been around for many years (since 1824 to be exact), but retailers and designers alike have recently released a plethora of statement-making jackets that are bold, yet classic.

Whether you fancy rocking a bright blue or would rather opt for a subdued plaid, our favorite brands offer a range to please any wardrobe. Check out some of our favorites below and then let us know in the comments section if we missed any good ones!
