NYFW Style Recap

NYFW #PKStyle Recap

As much as I love to capture my street style looks and share them all with you on social media throughout the year, New York Fashion Week is really the perfect backdrop for some street style inspiration. While we still have some chilly days ahead of us before Spring rolls into the big apple, NYFW is the perfect chance to amp up your Winter style inspiration board to hold you over until the temps begin to spike. Within New York Fashion Week now just behind us, I figured I would put together a little recap featuring some of my favorite personal looks from the shows. You all know I’m all about the details when it comes to styling a street style ready look, so I was beyond thrilled partner with The Vision Council to feature some incredible eyewear options with my looks, courtesy of Eyecessorize. Would love to hear your thoughts on some of these looks, feel free to comment or shoot me a DM on instagram. x – PK

This workwear inspired look was one of my favorites from the week and so easy to recreate for an elevated everyday look! Grab your best pair of skinny jeans and a thin black sweater to ground the look, nothing too complicated since this look is all about the jacket & glasses. This buffalo plaid sherpa workshirt from Sandro is not only warm but really makes your look stand out. Speaking of standing out? These Randy Jackson Collection shades are the perfect way to give this look just the touch of 1980’s inspired style to keep you street style ready. I ended up wearing this look to the Pamella Rolland show – I know you all loved that one on the gram!

Okay, you guys LOVED this look according to Instagram! As stylish and layered as this look may seem, it’s actually super simple to recreate and features style staples that most of us have in our closet. I kicked off this look with a gorgeous pair of glasses from TOMS via Eyecessorize (sooo many of you asked this!) which really brought the drama and served as a building block for the rest of the look. To continue the 80’s inspo, I chose to layer a classic denim shirt over a simple cotton turtleneck paired them back to a light pair of Frame denim, and top it off with an oversized camel topcoat. This was a perfect look to head downtown and take in the Todd Snyder show Baldwin presentations for NYFW.

All black is always a great idea during New York Fashion Week. For the Blondes show I opted for a chic buttery leather aviator jacket and cashmere turtleneck (keeping things simple and sophisticated is always on trend!). To make the look really pop, I threw on a gorgeous pair of frames from Dragon Alliance via Eyecessorize which added just the right amount of polish to this sleek look (and made the runways of the shows all the more clear to see & snap!)

As much as sportswear is taking over street style, a chic plaid blazer is always a great idea to take in a show during New York Fashion Week. For a few shows downtown, I brought an uptown vibe with my street style, pairing this glen-plaid blazer with a thin puffer vest (staying warm and layering doesn’t mean looking super puffy!) layered over a thin camel turtleneck. A gorgeous pair of John Varvatos glasses via Eyecessorize finished off the look, keeping things sophisticated and polished. Perfect look for the Joseph Abboud presentation downtown!

You guys know I LOVE a double jacket moment! This is such an easy look for any guy to recreate for Winter or early Spring. The key to making this type of look appear effortless is the styling. When layering a under the jackets, opt for something textured, bright & neutral (love this white cable-knit under this combo). For the accessories, it’s all about something classic, handsome and sophisticated. These glasses are from William Morris London and are icing on the cake when it comes to easy & sophisticated street style.

The Berkshires: A Weekend Stay At 33 Main

33 Main: A Picture Perfect Escape From Manhattan

Having never been to The Berkshires, the thought of a cozy weekend in Lenox, Massachusetts’ newest (and most perfectly designed) Inn 33Main was more than enough for Matt & I to hop in the car drive North. With navigation fired up, Venti coffees in the console, and our puppy Brody in our laps, we were pleasantly shocked to arrive in Lenox in under three hours from departing the concrete jungle (I never knew The Berkshires were so close to NYC!) A gentle snowfall welcomed us to Lenox, a picturesque New England town… frozen in time yet perfectly modernized. Sat squarely in the center of town (literally across the street from every boutique and restaurant your heart desires) was our home away from home, 33Main.

Upon checking in, we instantly fell in love. Don’t expect to roll your luggage up to a reception desk…instead you’ll be greeted by one of the friendly staff members who will give you the grand tour of the house, and treat you to some of the craziest warm chocolate chip cookies you’ll ever eat. What was formerly a grand private home in the 1800s has been painstakingly converted into a luxury inn…imagine the intimacy and charm of a bed & breakfast with all of the modern luxuries of a 5 star hotel.

**Design note: I’m a sucker for a good sisal rug / wallpaper combo and absolutely love how Annie Selke chose this chocolate sisal runner to climb the grand staircase as a compliment the Ralph Lauren wallpaper in the foyer. **

After our tour of the inn, we were whisked up the sisal lined staircase to our corner room. Flooded with light (all of the rooms are perfectly lit for instagram btw) where we were immediately struck by the interior design. Given that the entire place was appointed with the effortlessly luxe designs of Annie Selke, we were not surprised in the least. (Think airy grasscloth wallpaper, amazing textured linens, silky pillows, and chunky throw blankets, and the most insanely plush robe you can imagine…no joke on the robe situation).

(Scrambles to take notes in iphone on how to painstakingly recreate this luxe pillow combo back in NYC lol)

After taking a minute to throw down our bags (aka lay down in the plush bedding and watch half of a law & order SVU episode on the yummy flatscreen TV) and surprise Brody with the adorable organic dog treats left in the room, it was time for an outfit change to explore the rest of Main Street.

On the way out, the staff took a minute to go over the must-do restaurants and coffee shops in town and sent us on our way (our favorite restaurant in town was called NUDL, btw). After falling immediately in love with the interior design of 33Main, our first stop of the day was the Annie Selke store across the street to see if there were any must-have pieces for our own home.

If you’re a texture maniac like myself, be prepared to be a bit overloaded upon walking into the Annie Selke shop on Main street…so…much…good…stuff. Filled with everything from window treatments and runner rugs to pillows and hand soaps, this shop is a must see spot in Lenox. Matt & I cruised around the store, recognizing some of the standout pieces used in 33Main and ended up grabbing a killer moroccan style runner rug and the most incredible linen bathrobe (I told you the robe situation was out of control lol).

We took the rest of the day to explore Lenox and hit up some a few cute coffee shops and boutiques before heading back to the inn to get ready for dinner. Immediately after walking through the door we were surprised with a great cheese and wine spread in the lounge, complete with a roaring fireplace, compliments of the inn – can anyone say cozy overload?!

After some more robe time in the room, we headed out to dinner at NUDL (prounounced like noodle…there’s been a much welcomed mini hipsterization to the Berkshires in recent years…festive spelling for the win!) and slept like babies that night.

On Sunday we were graced with a bit more sun and slightly warmer temperatures so it was off to explore the neighboring village of Great Barrington. Just a short drive away, Great Barrington is like the big brother of Lenox. A few more restaurants and shops (slightly more crowded, too) line the Main street and it is the perfect spot for lunch and more shopping…we nibbled at a laid back pub called The Well.

Sadly all good things must come to and end and we were forced to head back to reality later that night. I can’t thank 33Main enough for such a wonderful first trip to the Berkshires – they made our stay not only comfortable and fun, but luxurious and relaxing at the same time…a hard feat to accomplish at almost any property. For those of you looking for the perfect anti-Hamptons getaway from New York City, you must swing up to the Berkshires and checkout 33Main, tell them Preston sent you 🙂 x

The Double Breasted Suit You Can Afford

Double Breasted Suit: How To Style It

The double breasted suit has made its’ way out of the 80’s and into the twenty-teens with slim fits and killer prices. This one from H&M is one of my recent fav purchases. I like to keep things simple and classic by styling it with a tassel loafer and slim sweater (in a festive pattern, of course). Try and keep things monochromatic by layering it with a tonal sweater and black loafers.

The Oxford Shirt: The Key To Keeping It Classic

The Oxford Shirt: Stock Up

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I’ve been spending a lot of time in Los Angeles for work (and may secretly escaping the negative temps in NYC). Figuring out my West coast wardrobe was a bit tricky. As much as I want to wear rock and roll tee shirts and fringe jackets, I’ve decided it’s best to stick with what I know best, simple and cool. Warm days and cool nights call for smart layers and breathable fabrics and with LA being the capitol of denim culture, I mostly stick to a trusty pair of jeans and a classic oxford shirt. Paired back to an elevated loafer or slipper, I find this look to not only be perfect for the warm breezes but great for lunch meetings and networking sessions as well. Whether you live out West or are escaping the chill for a warm weather vaca, a simple yet playful look like this won’t let you down.

Fuzzy Fall Layers & Chelsea Boots

Sherpa Hoodies: Fall Off-Duty Favorite

Fall is all about great textures and awesome layering hacks. For as much as I love to layer, it’s nice to opt for one killer piece to keep warm while looking cool. This sherpa hoodie is perfect to throw over a t-shirt and pair to your favorite ripped jeans for a perfect weekend look. (style note, it’s a bit chunky so I wouldn’t wear under a slim jacket or else you may find yourself looking a bit ‘puffy’…stick to a great puffer when layering with outerwear) Stick to your favorite gum-sole chelsea boots and you instantly have a look thats approved for pumpkin-spice, whiskey infused anything.

3 Fall Trends You Can Wear Right Now

How To Shop For New Clothes in August (and what you should be buying)

For many of us, August means long Summer vacations, cool nights at the beach, and last minute vacation shares with your besties. In the fashion world, August means Fall is here and in full swing. While many retailers have adapted their product delivery schedules to make up for the fact that it’s still too damn hot for puffer coats, many continue to push the Autumn fashion deliveries to stores. What does this mean for us? I like to consider August as my Fall wish-list time frame…giving me a full month to digest what the big trends are, what the brands are pushing, and to start making note of the pieces I am going to invest in once the weather changes.

However with all of this yummy new product packing store shelves, I’m always dying to make a few purchases ahead immediately. If you are going to start shopping in stores during August, I’ve made a list below of a few things to be aware of:

  • Watch the Prices on Big Pieces: As excited as you are to get your hands on something new, keep in mind that the more expensive pieces you are seeing (leather jackets, puffer coats, chunky knits etc) will go on sale sooner rather than later as the Holiday deliveries usually deliver in mid October (which will typically bump down prices on Fall items).

  • Be Seasonally Smart: Make sure the pieces you are buying can actually be worn right away (aka stay away from heavy wools, down layers, chunky leathers, etc) Some of the biggest Fall trends are versatile enough to be worn right now, we’ll recap those in a minutes.

  • Don’t Jump Right Into Crazy Trends: When shopping for early Fall pieces, don’t go too trendy too quickly. I always find that my style develops and changes once true Fall weather rolls around aka there may be a trend that I thought I would’t get into that I instantly become obsessed with, etc. Ease yourself into trends by playing with trendy accessories at first.

Now that we’ve gone over  a few best practices, let’s get to the fun part. Below are some of the biggest trends for Fall and some pieces that you can wear right now to boost your August wardrobe and take you right into Autumn like a pro.

Happy New Year!

I know most of you are getting ready to (finally) ring in 2017 and celebrate the end of 2016 with friends and loved ones, but I wanted to take a quick minute to personally thank ALL of you for your support this past year. 2016 had its ups and downs for all of us, but for me it was an incredible year of growth. 2016 was my first official year working for myself, running my own styling & creative consulting business outside of the corporate fashion world. To say it was easy would be a lie. The struggle was real and the hustle was strong, however the rewards were plentiful. I have so many exciting things in store for 2017 and can not wait to share it all with you! I honestly owe each and every one of you a big THANK YOU for your kind words, encouragement, social engagement and loyalty. I love hearing your style questions, receiving your messages and having you join me while working on-air.  Thank you. Now… go have one too many glasses of champagne!

Heres to a fantastic and stylish 2017 together. xo – Preston
