Heyday: Fitness For Your Face

Heyday Facials: The Lunchtime Workout For Your Face

by Jacob Bengal

If you are anything like me, facials were usually a splurge that was reserved for when I really wanted to treat myself to a day of pampered luxury, or someone else loved me enough to get me a gift card for one. I’m obsessed with skin care and learning just about everything I can about how to achieve perfect, dewy, glowing skin on the regular. So when I heard about a skin-care haven in New York that was revolutionizing the facial game, I had to check it out for myself before I became obsessed.

HeyDay, a facial company based in New York City, is here to answer all of our prayers, questions, and concerns while streamlining the facial process and making it easy to permanently add into our busy schedules (because doesn’t everyone deserve at least 50-minutes to themselves once a month?).

Co-founder and CEO Adam Ross wants to help educate you and I to create the skin of our dreams. He took the splurge-y, luxury connotation of a facial and kicked it to the curb, offering targeted treatments, lowered pricing, easy scheduling including an app, and stores that stay open longer to “respect the New Yorker’s schedule.”

Ross had the lightbulb moment while working in the beauty industry thinking, “there is not enough accessibility to professional skincare in this structurally challenged market.” He realized getting a facial and caring about your skin’s health should be as easy as booking your daily SoulCycle class. With a society that is so focused on health, wellness, and self-care, it should be a no brainer that we should be treating our skin with the same intense respect we give our bodies and life choices.

HeyDay offers three different facial experiences to choose from: a 30-minute express facial for $60, the classic 50-minute facial for $95, and the extended extra “me time” 75-minute facial for $135. You can also choose from “add-ons” that include peels, microdermabrasion, or light therapy for $35. There are currently three different locations, with their newest urban oasis opening on the Upper East Side. All locations are open from 8am-10pm on the weekdays and 9am-8pm on the weekends. Whatever you are doing in the city, they can certainly squeeze you in while running from a workout, meeting, or a lunch date.

To create an unforgettable experience each Skin therapist works with you to perfect your daily routine and help make sure that when you leave, the importance of skincare stays with you. During my experience (I was so excited, I took a picture of my routine line-up) my skin therapist went through some changes I should make to help clear up my acne. I left with the brightest, and visibly less red and irritated complexion I had ever seen, plus a plethora of products to help make sure I could keep it that way (or at least until I plan to visit again next month). A few minutes later I even received an email with a detailed list of all the products that were used during my facial, in case I wanted to purchase them at a later date.

Ross recommends that you receive a facial every month, since skin cells renew every 28 days or so. It is beneficial to get a deep clean to remove dead skin cells, extract the pesky spots, and hydrate and brighten your skin on a whole new level. He also stressed the long-term benefits of skincare health, and that the earlier you act to preserve your skin, the better results you will see. “We want to help our clients achieve the best version of themselves,” says Ross, “because better skin leads to better self-esteem.” I could not agree more Adam, and I am now officially obsessed.

DIY Succulents

Trending: Home Sweet Succulents

By Grace Konrad

When it comes to interior design, succulents are having a major moment. The small, potted, thick-leaved desert plants have been popping up in store designs and apartments all over NYC – including my coffee table and book shelves. Many friends have asked me where is the best place to buy them, why are they so expensive already planted, and how can I use them effectively in my space? To answer some of these questions, I’ve put together a little DIY on how to create your own potted succulents (for much less) by utilizing the beloved NYC flower district.

If you’ve never been to the flower district on 28th street, you may be a little overwhelmed during your first visit. My advice is to arrive early and browse the stores before making any purchases. Some stores may have better plant selections while another may have the cuter planters. Once you have a lay of the land, it’s easier to embrace the energy and get excited about your planting project.

Planted succulents require 5 simple things in order to thrive:

  • A container with drainage holes
  • Potting mix
  • Light
  • Water (once or twice a week)
  • Gravel or topper of your choice

Simple, right? My first task of the day was to find pots I liked. After browsing a few shops I settled on two different containers, each for an individual plant. One was a more traditional terracotta style, and the other a cool square container in matte grey. Major bonus, each container was only 4$. Many of the stores in the flower district offer larger terarium style containers if that’s what you’re looking for, so you just have to be willing to browse a bit to find what you want.

The next step was to find plants I actually liked and wanted to have in my space. While multiple stores had succulents and boldly hued cacti, I ultimately chose two simple plants without major foliage. I wanted something that could easily be place on a narrow bookshelf or table without it being overwhelming, so I was focused on the overall size. The plants I ended up purchasing were from the first store I visited, but went back to after scoping out the competition. The plants were already in soil which saved me from purchasing an entire bag of it, and the owner gave me a great price – 7$ total for both plants. Last thing to purchase was gravel, which set me back about $12 for the bag.

In the end, the total cost for the project was about $23 for two succulents. This was a major steal considering that florists and garden shops in the city can charge anywhere from $15-100 for planted succulents and terrariums. Plus I had the satisfaction of designing the planters completely myself, which gave me the freedom to match back to my existing interior decor scheme.

Home Update: Feat. Gray Malin

Gray Malin photography

November is a perfect month for a bit of sprucing up around the house. Thanksgiving brings the friends, family & food. Before we know it, the holiday parties have kicked off and December is in full swing. Prior to  hanging the the garland and stringing the Christmas lights, I like to have the “bones” of my apartment in tip top shape. Consider this a perfect time to give the staples an update…think classic throw pillows, rich candles, textured blankets & standout artwork.

I get tons of questions and comments about my “gallery wall” of prints and art in my living room. Made up of pieces of art I’ve collected across my travels, my gallery wall was in need of a standout piece…I knew just what I needed.

img_1195 Photographer Gray Malin (and old college friend) has captured some of the most festive and colorful scenes around the world, including my new obsession – the Hermes clad camel at The Parker Palm Springs (now hanging in my living room!).

Palm Springs Gray Malin

Gray is currently having a 30% off sitewide sale so whether youre looking to upgrade your art vibes before the hoards of holiday visitors, or do a little gift shopping…check out his work here. (ps: Gray has tons of small gifts and trinkets on the site as well…perfect for holiday gifting)

Interior Design Tips By Preston KonradThrow pillows don’t have to be the same color, or the same two colors for that matter. Try mixing it up a bit with classic yet playful pillows that go with your overall color scheme. Shop them below:

A killer camel coat is one of the best pieces you can invest in during the Winter months. If you don’t have one in your closet already…shame on you (keep reading, I’ll hook you up in a few seconds). What I consider to be a closet staple, the trusty camel coat is not only extremely versatile, but chic enough to give any outfit an insta-worthy style upgrade. Thrown over a slim down puffer vest & plaid shirt, your camel coat will give your look an instant slim, GQ vibe while keeping out the chill (I’m trying to get you guys to move away from the bulky puffer jackets here if you can’t tell). This bad boy pictured above (purchased 2 years go) is an MAJOR sale right now at Club Monaco…under $300 and additional sale on top of that I believe.

Happy New Year!

img_2171

I know most of you are getting ready to (finally) ring in 2017 and celebrate the end of 2016 with friends and loved ones, but I wanted to take a quick minute to personally thank ALL of you for your support this past year. 2016 had its ups and downs for all of us, but for me it was an incredible year of growth. 2016 was my first official year working for myself, running my own styling & creative consulting business outside of the corporate fashion world. To say it was easy would be a lie. The struggle was real and the hustle was strong, however the rewards were plentiful. I have so many exciting things in store for 2017 and can not wait to share it all with you! I honestly owe each and every one of you a big THANK YOU for your kind words, encouragement, social engagement and loyalty. I love hearing your style questions, receiving your messages and having you join me while working on-air.  Thank you. Now… go have one too many glasses of champagne!

Heres to a fantastic and stylish 2017 together. xo – Preston

Holiday Style: Festive Daytime Styling

christmas sweaters for men

Holiday Style:

I like to kick things up a notch when dressing for the holidays. While pulling off your evening look is relatively simple (dark, blazers, sweaters) a daytime festive look can be tricky. Color, classic patterns & simple denim are key staples when putting together a classic holiday look with a twist. With work parties rolling into friend parties (which roll into countless insta-shots), I love this signal red duffle coat to make a statement. Layer a denim dress shirt (make sure to look for a great spread-collar…no buttons) with a classic fair isle vest & plaid tie for a look thats classically preppy yet fresh. Grounded in denim, this look is great for a Friday at the office and your holiday party.

After a wonderful kick-off dinner in Manhattan last week, the guys from American Field market (think the coolest & freshest menswear designers all in one room showing off their merch) invited me to swing by the Brooklyn market this past weekend. The set-up was killer. Brands ranging from Boll & Buck to Sailormade assembled in one room to meet with browsers, brands, bloggers & editors. Take a peek at some of the pics we snapped at the expo, as well as the look I threw on to venture off to Brooklyn, after the jump…(I linked to the pieces I’m wearing in the pics below…minus a few things that are no longer available in which case, I have subs for you guys!) x- Preston
