Winter Staples: The Sperry Duck Book

Prepping For A Wintry Mix With Prep Staples

The Duck Boots I’m Loving

With the Holidays behind us, it’s time to get back to our regularly scheduled Winter programming. As much as I love my red plaids, tartans, and buffalo check prints; I like to keep things Wintery but not too Christmas heavy when styling my wardrobe after New Years. In general, my Winter style is all about taking prep classics and adding a little twist to them. Classic houndstooth prints mixed with rugged Native-American prints, slim denim with the cuffs rolled, a classic beanie, and of course – a classic Duck boot and chunky pair of socks. These bad boys from Sperry are my new go-to’s. Trust me, being an East coast kid with preppy roots, I’ve literally owned every pair of Duck boots out there – and I have to say these by far the most comfortable. Gone are the days of clunking around in boots that feel like cinderblocks, no more socks slipping down past my heels, etc…you know the struggles of an old-school Duck Boot. These babies from Sperry not only eliminate all of those pesky boot problem of years gone by, but they are waterproof with a great tread to keep me ready for city slipperiness all day long. Consider these your new south-of-the-ankle Winter staple when looking for a great boot that will give you endless styling opportunities and tons of comfort – finally, prep for all!

I’ve scoured the web (and my closet) to bring you guys the first of a few ultimate shopping edits for Fall 2018. Puffer Vests: Keep It Simple & Stylish

Puffer Vests: The Key To Clean & Functional Layering

Layering for Fall doesn’t have to be overly complicated, enter the puffer vest. My rule for Fall layering is to keep things clean, simple & functional. With temperatures jumping all over the place lately, I always suggest to layer functionally, making it easy to shed a layer or two without sacrificing your Autumn look. I’ve partnered with Old Navy to show you guys how I’m styling some of their newest Fall pieces. Start off by opting for a classic crewneck sweatshirt and killer pair of olive jeans. Not only will these pieces stand on their own when un-layered but they serve as a perfect canvas to start adding pieces. Throw on a classic denim jacket for a look that’s perfectly rugged yet pulled together. To top it off, I’ve added this puffer vest (which happens to be the perfect shade of maroon) with a great slim fit which will keep you from looking like the Michelin man when layered.

Buffalo Check You Can Wear Right Now

Buffalo Check: The Heritage Pattern That Is A Must-Have

With morning and evening temperatures sitting pretty in the low 60’s lately, it’s time to start thinking about how to kick off a Fall look while being temperature friendly. This kick-ass buffalo plaid fleece jacket from TopMan is perfect for a brisk walk to and from work while the temps are still crisp. (Super easy and fluffy to throw in your bag and rock a monochromatic look for your lunch break when the temps are too hot). I have a feeling this piece is probably going to sell out quickly so grab it now and wear all the way through Winter with a rugged boot and beanie.

Leather Weather Has Arrived

Leather Weather has arrived and it doesn’t mean you have to spend a million bucks to get the perfect moto look. Every year the vegan leather (or engineered leather) options get better and better while staying easy on the wallet. We tend to keep our money right where we can see it, in our shoe closet. For this look, Preston opted to spend on the Saint Laurent Heidi boot and pair it back to a faux leather jacket and great neutral sweatshirt. (We wont lie though, we have a few quality leather jackets in the closet but they don’t all have to come with a high price tag).

The Colorblocked Cardigan: Your Layering Friend

The colder (and snowier) it gets, the more creative we have to be when it comes to layering. We’re big fans of avoiding puffy, down filled jackets and opting for smart layering tricks instead. Grab a thick denim shirt, layer with a chunky, vintage inspired cardigan (the shawl collar helps keep your neck warm when buttoned fully) and pair with your favorite wool topcoat for a layered look thats slim and really damn warm. A classic Red Wing boot will keep you moving when things get slushy (and will look bad-ass with the rest of your look).
