Grooming Products I Love For Spring 2017

My Spring Grooming Ride Or Dies

Anyone who knows me, knows I have a bit of a problem when it comes to buying, testing & hoarding grooming products. I. just. can. not. stop. From hair to tan to skin to face, I’m not joking when I say I have drawers full of products. Whether they are from a department store or a drug store, I get an odd amount of pleasure out of testing new grooming products. Now that  the chill of winter behind us and warm sunny days lie ahead, I’ve been switching up the grooming game to prep my skin hair & face for the Summer sun.

Many of us don’t realize that the winter months take it’s toll on our appearance. The crisp winds & cold days suck the moisture right out of our skin and the lack of sun has everyone looking way too pale.

What to do? Switch up the grooming game. For Spring 2017, I’ve been testing tons of new grooming products and have rounded up my top picks for you guys here, please enjoy and be sure to write me with any questions!

FAVORITE GRADUAL TANNER: Bondi Sands Gradual Tanning Milk  $22.00- Straight out of Australia (and suuuuper hard to find in the US), this is one of the most natural looking gradual tanners that I have found. Apply it after showering like you would you favorite everyday body moisturizer and boom, you’re out the door. The color of the product is white and applies smoothly and evenly…no streaks to be seen. The scent is an amazing, light coco butter scent and will not interfere with your cologne or eau de parfum.

FAVORITE DEODORANT: Dove Men+Care Elements Minerals & Sage $7.80 – I got hooked on spray deodorants after years of buying them in Europe while traveling for work (and wondering why there were not more spray options back home in the US). Say goodbye to white marks and streaks on your dark clothes, and easily toss it in your gym bag without the worry of it melting, breaking or chunking. This particular scent is new to the Dove men spray deodorant family, and I love it!

FAVORITE DAILY MOISTURIZER: Nutrogena Hydroboost Water Gel $14.21 – This stuff is crack. Seriously, it’s awesome. The perfect moisturizer to use as the weather warms up, this is more of a cooling gel moisturizer rather than a traditional, heavy cream. The scent is fresh and super light (almost smells like what you would want water to smell like?) and soaks into the skin almost immediately after application. What I love most about the insanely amazing texture is that it does not rest on top of your face or feel greasy in the slightest…keeping you from looking oily or shiny.

BEST HAIR CLAY: Kiehl’s Grooming Solutions Texturizing Clay $18.00 – This has become my go-to hair product for a few months now. Just released as part of the new ‘Grooming Solutions’ range, a tiny bit of this clay will leave your hair texturized and piecey with an awesome matte finish (little to no shine). I love that the grip is long lasting and yet easily washes out with water.

BEST NIGHTLY SERUM: Fresh Black Tea Age-Delay Firming Serum $69.00 – Serum is the step that most guys forget about when going about their nightly routine. Applied after you wash your face and before your nightly moisturizer, this serum in particular will give you a toned and refreshed look by morning. Just a few drops will improve the look of your skin and make it appear more luminous and fresh.

BEST EYE CREAM: Mario Badescu Ceremide Eye Gel $18.00 – Another forgotten step in many people’s nightly routine, eye cream is crucial to fighting away those crows feet and fine lines. This bad boy from cult fav Mario Badescu is a must have. Much like the Nutrogena moisturizer, this is actually a refreshing gel as opposed to a cream…which feels much lighter while still packing a punch. I actually keep this in the fridge and then apply around my eyes at night or in the morning before a shoot or meeting to combat puffiness or dark circles.

Grooming Update: May 2016

We’ll admit it, we have a bit of a problem when it comes to grooming products. We can’t get enough (let’s say it comes with the territory).Call us hoarders, it’s cool. Each month we try to update the drawer and try out products that we’ve never used before which leads us to our latest haul of grooming goodies. Our picks for may range from a killer fake tan to a miracle volumizing spray for your combover. Checkout the latest must-haves, after the jump:

1: LAYRITE GROOMING SPRAY: Use it for a dry style that wonʼt leave your hair feeling overly stiff or crispy. Layrite Grooming Spray is a light grooming spray, used in the barber shops to create a bit volume and prep the hair during the drying process for a good dose of our famous pomade. Take one home and use it – youʼll look and feel better.

2. 24K SALLY HERSHBERGER TEXTURIZING PASTE: This velvety paste is perfect for a laid-back weekend look or for something a bit more casual. Don’t expect a slick, shiny do with this product…this is for a relaxed, off-duty style. It doesn’t offer much hold but the finish is killer. We absolutely love the smell and texture.

3. MITCH CONSTRUCTION PASTE: Flexible, webby texture forms and separates—great for messy, undone styles. Long-lasting styling fixatives secure the style, while conditioning ingredients leave hair soft and manageable. Crunch-free finish with no flaking.

4.BONDI SANDS SELF-TANNING FOAM: This shit is amazing. Straight from down under, this is one of the best products we’ve tried. It is applied with a mitt (we suggest the mitt, don’t use your hands) and glides on smoothly and evenly. The smell is awesome (a bit like coconut, vanilla and a hint of chocolate even?) and it dries in seconds. As with all self-tanners, be sure to read the full instructions to avoid a self-tanning disaster.

5. MITCH DOUBLE HITTER SHAMPOO & CONDITIONER: This guy lathers like a champ. An awesome daily shampoo with a built-in conditioner, this has quickly become one of our favorite shampoos. The smell is fresh and not overly scented and the packaging is cool and easy. We seriously can’t rave enough about the lather, though. It’s genius.

Some hair & grooming stuff we’re real...

With New York Fashion week in full swing we’re already finding ourselves bouncing around Manhattan from event to event while trying to beat this INSANE September heat. The last thing we want to worry about is sweaty, flat hair.

We’ve pulled together some of the hair & grooming products that are working to keep the hair game on point these days (yeah, some of them look really girly, but these products are no joke for the a good high & tight man cut).

2215478STEP 1. Big Sexy Hair Powder Play: Use this bad boy first. Once your hair is dry, lightly sprinkle throughout your hair. This crazy hair crack basically dirties up your hair and serves as an initial layer to keep things from falling flat (especially in these hot temps). Warning: use too much of this stuff and you won’t be able to run your fingers through your hair.

Mens-Firm-Hold-Matte-Finish-Clay-PomadeSTEP 2. Baxter of California Clay Pomade: A tried and true favorite. This shit is heavy and has mega hold without any shine. We use a tiny bit of this as our second step to give the hair a cool, lifted shape. (a tiny bit, less than a dime sized amount will do). Rub the gunk around your hands and then run your fingers through your hair.

a149111.001STEP 3: Jonathan Silky Dirt: This is the shit that gives the shine. Don’t expect much hold out of this creamy obsession, but it will make your hair look like you just stepped out of an editorial. Use a dime sized amount.

1248STEP 4: R+CO Hairspray: Just put your ego aside and forget about the bright red hooker nails on the bottle…this stuff is awesome. (one of our good friends who is a celebrity hairstylist in LA turned us on to this underground brand) Flexible yet strong hold that won’t have you smelling like an overly perfumed tourist while walking down the sidewalk. Just a quick spray will do.

nd.17STEP 5: A quick spritz of your favorite cologne and you’re out the door. (we’ve recently rediscovered one of our old school favorites, Terre de Hermes and remembered why we loved it so much)
