With the warmer weather comes the flood of wedding & special occasion invites. Tackle your look with lightweight suiting in seersucker, linen, and lightweight Italian fabrics. If you can’t tell, we love a denim dress shirt with our suits for a less formal approach to smart dressing. Keep your color story tight as we did with the blues, and allow for a fun pop of color in your tie of pocket square. Now go on, venture into warm weather wedding land…here’s to hoping you don’t get stuck at the table with the random cousins of cousins.

Spring is finally here and we could not be one bit happier. As the weather warms up, we’re making sure to layer for sudden chills and sticking to our color palette of the season..rich tones of navy, maroon, and neutrals. We suggest keeping things mostly monochromatic with pops of rich jewel tones like teal and maroon.

Ice , Ice Baby: The Platinum Plunge

First of all, NO…I did NOT look to Kim Kardashian or Jared Leto for inspiration for this recent hair plunge. Maybe it was the long winter, the need for sun or just the itch for change, but over the weekend I decided to take a big jump and change things up north of the eyebrows. Yes, I just went platinum blonde and YES, I F*&ing love it.

Having never colored my hair in my entire life (aside from that one time my head had an unfortunate collision with a drug store die box) It was important for me to choose the perfect colorist for this endeavor. Enter Mark Debolt, colorist to the stars at Marie Robinson Salon in New York City.

The color team at Marie Robinson came highly recommended from a dear friend who certainly knows her platinum, the famously iced-platinum Editor-In-Chief of Cosmopolitan Magazine, Joanna Coles (who told me, “what’s the worst that can happen, someone will mistake you for Tilda Swinton??’). Her recommendation per usual, was on point. On Saturday morning I woke up as if it were Christmas morning, ran to starbucks, and headed downtown. The salon was packed…buzzing with perfectly colored New Yorkers; I knew I was in good hands with Mark. A double process and, a toner  and 4 hours later,  voila. Take a peek at my hair adventure right here:

As much as I am obsessed with the color, it’s going to take a bit of getting used to. (and I can’t stop reenacting the SNL Californian sketches) Something to help the ease into the look? A simple wardrobe to of luxe solids and basics.

Early Spring in Manhattan is always INSANELY unpredictable. 60 degrees on Monday and by Friday, we’re being bullied by snow. The key to staying warm and dry while still looking seasonally appropriate for Spring, is all in the color story and layers. We opt for nautical tones of navy and cream in Spring fabrics like cotton and brushed light flannels. (SKIP the wool, snowflake prints, rustic plaids, etc…these should already be packed up in your closet for next Winter.)

Spring 2015: embrace the weirdly-chic man sandal

Screen Shot 2015-02-04 at 9.36.36 PM

In 2014 we were forcefully taken back to the 90’s in regards the choices we made south of the ankle. Birkenstocks, Classic Stan Smiths, Teva’s…the works. We were giving you a hint of Full House realness and to be honest, we were completely into it (and still are). Aside from sneakers, the breakout stars in Spring 2014 footwear were mens sandals (we’re going to reference these as Mandals FYI), and this year they are back with a vengeance.

The 90’s are still lingering around with the surging popularity of shower-slide styles once made famous by Adidas and now perfected by Raf Simmons, Gucci & Valentino, as well as the familiar styling of the Birkenstock. However, this years go-to mandal combines slim leather straps, modern structural soles, and sleek closures and stitching. When not rocking your joggers and white sneakers this Spring, opt for a slick mandal with a slim pant.

Six Trends You Need to Know for Spring 2015

HEADER-SPRING-EDIT

Though the snow may have just started to fall, the guys at WTJ already have spring on the brain. With the Fall 2015 fashion week just around the corner (it’s next month BTW), we combed through the Spring 2015 collections to pick out some of our favorite trends. From athletic-inspired pieces to extra-long shirts, designers brought forth some serious trends that we can’t wait to get behind.

Athleisure

Ath-leisure: Just because you’re going to the gym, doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your personal style. With some trends leaning towards an athletic aesthetic, many designers showed sporty pieces that ranged from bike shorts and leggings (yes, meggings) to track jacket with matching bottoms. Now you can finally invest in some great pieces that won’t clash with your fancy new gym bag.

Short Suits

Short Suits: When the weather starts to warm up, it can be down right miserable to wear a suit all day long. Thankfully, men now have a new way to prevent themselves from passing out from heat stroke. The short suit is dressy enough to be worn around the office and will keep you cool as you run around to all your meetings.

Mandals

Mandals: Some of us at WTJ want to point out that we were wearing Tevas and Birkenstocks way before the cool kids started doing it. The sandal explosion that took over the fashion world last year appears to be sticking around for Spring 2015. Whether it’s a classic slide or strappier gladiator version, you can be sure you won’t regret investing in a fresh pair this season.

Joggers

Joggers: These tapered pants are another trend that took off last year and is still holding strong. The jogger has become a staple in our wardrobes for two reasons: 1. They’re so versatile you can pair them with a blazer or a hoodie and 2. It basically feels like you’re wearing sweatpants all day long (AKA an essential for every flying ensemble).

Geo Prints

Geo Prints: There’s something to say about geometric shapes that help make a great statement piece. This season many designers turned to symmetrical prints in sweaters, pants and even shorts that we couldn’t help but draw our attention to. Pair these bold items with some basic neutrals for a truly head-turning outfit.Extended Shirts

Extended Shirts: If you love layering, we can imagine that you’ll be as excited about this trend as we are. (And no, these shirts weren’t invented so they can hide your butt crack.) The style showed up on many of the runways extending not only basic tees, but button-downs as well — just make sure your girlfriend doesn’t try stealing it so she can wear it as a shirtdress.

Which trend are you most excited for? Did you see any other looks that might be popular this spring? Let us know in the comments below!
